Passion. Purpose. Success.
Oct 16 Tip: Passion. Purpose. Success.
- Skill acquisition is one ingredient to success
- But successfully dealing with frustration and adversity is another ingredient to success
- Mental toughness is another important ingredient to success
- Passion and Purpose for me is THE KEY INGREDIENT to success
- When you are shooting at the goal you are not only shooting at that target you should be shooting for reaching your goal, both literally and figuratively shooting for a target
- And on the literal side ALWAYS SHOOT WITH A PURPOSE, TO SCORE
- PASS WITH A PURPOSE, No ” HOPE PASSES” meaning hope it makes it to my teammate
- I want every kid to DEFINE THEIR GOALS FOR THIS SEASON NOW
- Clearly state your goals and dedicate yourself to achieving them
- Write them down, parents and kids together, both short term and long term
- Do you want to play in college? Where do you want to play? Watch that team play on the tv or the computer
- Be a student of the game, watch your favorite college team’s power play, penalty kill, goalie
- Write down how best to achieve them
- Getting to sleep earlier? Set a bedtime and stick to it
- Drinking more water? Set a goal of daily water intake and drink it
- Planning the week together, homework times? tests? quizzes? games? bedtimes? Staying organized and focused will help with your hockey and academic goals
- DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SET LONG TERM GOALS
- Set The ULTIMATE GOAL
- VERBALIZE THAT GOAL
- When can you fit in a little extra training time?
- 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there that works! Don’t have the mindset that I don’t have time today to spend a half hour for self discovery so I will skip extra training, instead all of those minutes here and there DO ADD UP
- Stickhandling in the house with a tennis ball, 100% will improve your hands
- Wrist Gripper in the car-your wrists NEED to be strong in hockey
- Washing your equipment? Cleaning out and vacuming the car for your mom and dad? Small victories feel good and help you on your way to your ultimate goal
- Helping out a teammate on or off the ice, with hockey or homework
- Talking to teammates on the ice leads to success
- “Stick down” ” Behind you” “Got it. Awesome pass. Thank you.” ” I am right behind you.”
